In his work The Art Book Orchestra, Konrad Korabiewski brings various genres and media together, combining sound art, experimental music and book art with graphic art. This results in multimedia book objects which can be played like an instrument. When one opens them and leafs through them, electronic tones with a deep, spherical and melancholy sound ring out. Each book holds one or more pieces of music composed by Korabiewski, which first unfold during the interaction. There are two possible forms of presentation: The visitor can handle the books as an installation and can discover each book by itself, can examine it and leaf through it and listen to it. Alternatively, in a performance, the artist can combine them all to make an orchestra with several voices performing an overall composition of all the pieces in the individual books. With its complex multimediality, The Art Book Orchestra offers an extraordinary experience in that it can equally well be seen, heard and felt.
